| This is my version of the Comet
Miniatures XL5 kit. I built it pretty much straight from the box,
for this was my first kit that had a significant amount of white metal
parts. For me, I prefer the XL5 "clean," not with all
the "dirt" airbrushed on. I used pinstripes tape for the
thin blue and yellow lines.
The white metal parts make this a very heavy model
and you have to be real careful when moving it! But it seems very
accurate compared to the TV show models. |
This is the Quercetti flying model of
the XL5 from the early 1960's. I bought one from the back of Boys
Life magazine in 1968 and immediately broke it against the fence in our
backyard (it flew much further then I anticipated!). In 1996, I
found this model from a collector. I applied the pod and fin
decals and left the rest alone.
This model was the basis for my 5 foot model rocket
that is featured on this site. |
